After their withdrawal from Eurovision 2023, it has been officially confirmed that North Macedonia will not return to Eurovision, which is due to take place in Malmö and will miss the competition for a second year in a row.
Reason revealed for non-participation
Previously North Macedonia’s potential participation came about when the broadcaster’s budget for 2024, where MRT has allocated 1,500,000 MKD for their participation in Eurovision and Junior Eurovision in 2024. However, despite this, MRT has decided to not participate in Malmö.
North Macedonia’s non-participation came when the list of countries for Eurovision 2024 was revealed. Earlier today, MRT revealed that their non-participation is to focus on the jubilee, celebrating 80 years of Radio and 60 years of Television. Despite their non-participation, MRT has revealed that it will be airing the Semi-Finals and Grand Final of Eurovision 2024 on its channel.
North Macedonia’s Eurovision Journey
The ex-Yugoslav nation made its formal debut in the Contest in 1998 with Vlado Janevski’s “Ne zori, zoro”. Performing last, North Macedonia finished 19th out of 25.
Following Kaliopi’s participation in 2012 with “Crno i Belo”, North Macedonia began a 6-year non-qualification streak. Tamara Todevska’s participation in 2019 broke the streak with her song, “Proud” – which finished in 7th place, winning the jury vote.
In 2022, Andrea represented North Macedonia, singing her song “Circles”. Andrea performed in the second semi-final, finishing in 11th place out of 16. In total, Andrea received 76 points.

It is very sad that Macedonia will not participate in Eurovision, it is still MRTV’s policy, I still think there is a place for us, but I hope that some policies will be changed.
At Eurovision, it is not only Macedonia that is not participating, but many other countries are not participating, for example Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, I see Bulgaria as well….and many others.
Let’s bring them back so that Eurovision will be even richer so that every voice can be heard.
