Late last month, CYBC revealed via Instagram the two choreographers who will be working with Silia Kapsis in 2024.
Cyprus’ 2024 choreographers
Kelly Sweeney, from California, USA, has worked on “Dancing with the Stars”, “So You Think You Can Dance”, and “Dancing With Myself”–shows on three of the US’ most prominent TV networks. She also worked on Dreamworks’ Trolls. Not only is she a professional dancer and choreographer, she is also a teacher! Her Instagram boasts videos of her teaching choreo to young girls. Sweeney is also still young herself, at only 21 years old.
Guy Groove (real name Guy Amir) has choreographed for multiple Jojo Siwa music videos. Like Sweeney, he is also a prolific dance teacher and choreographer. He has an extensive history working with American kids’ channel Nickelodeon, including working on their Kids Choice Awards. In addition, he’s appeared as a featured dancer on Crazy Ex Girlfriend, the Middle, and the Goldbergs. Groove boasts over ten years of experience; he’s been working in dance since graduating with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in 2012.
These two will choreograph for Silia Kapsis, the 16-year-old Australian-born singer who will represent Cyprus at next year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
Cyprus’ Eurovision journey
The Mediterranean nation made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981, where Island participated with the song “Monika” and place 6th. Since then, Cyprus has participated 39 times (32 of which where they qualified for the Grand Final).
In 2023, CyBC internally selected Andrew Lambrou to represent them in Liverpool with the song “Break A Broken Heart”. During their participation in Liverpool, Andrew qualified for the final, before going on to finish in 12th place with a total of 126 points. The juries gave Cyprus 68 points, whilst the televote awarded Andrew 58 points.
