What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from the Semi-Final of Benidorm Fest 2024?

Kittens (“Here To Stay”): The moment I heard this it made my brain do a lil sparkle! Just every time I hear it I’m bopping away. It may be a little cringe here and there but honestly I’m just leaning into it – it’s just a lot of fun and makes me want to dance around the place happily.

Daniel (Astronauta): I wouldn’t say “Astronauta” is out of this world , but what it is is a whole lot fun – and the type of song that contests like these are better for. It could be the soundtrack to many a party under the Spanish sun, and is bound to get people out of their seats in Benidorm

Jazzi (“Sé Quién Soy”): This is really enjoyable as an entry, it has a catchy melody which I personally find memorable. Also I enjoy the pop-rock feel of the song it does give me throwback vibes to music I would listen to in the early 2010’s, which were my teen years so it feels nostalgic enough for me to really enjoy. I really like Angy’s voice as well.

Spain’s Eurovision Journey

Spain debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1961 with Conchita Bautista’s “Estando Contigo”. The country earned its first win in 1968 with Massiel’s “La La La”, and won again in 1969 with Salome’s “Vivo Cantando” in an infamous four-way tie. Although they have yet to win again, Spain earned several 2nd place finishes, most famously with Mocedades’ “Eres tu” in 1973 and Anabel Conde’s “Vuelve conmigo” in 1996.

In 2023, Spain selected Blanca Paloma to carry on the success of Chanel in 2022. As part of the Big 5, Blanca Paloma did not need to qualify to the Grand Final from the semi-finals. At the close of voting, her song “EAEA” finished 17th, with a total of 100 points. Of these, 95 points came from the jury, whilst 5 came from the televote.
