What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from theFinal of Benidorm Fest 2024?

Kittens (“ZORRA”): Although I was sold on how catchy this song was from the recording I was not expecting this to go off as much in the performance as it did. Easily one of the most camp stagings I’ve ever seen, an absolute delight from start to finish and a great example of where the final product wildly exceeds the recording. The crowd chanting really set it off too, and regardless of if it wins or not i think it’ll end up being one of the iconic songs of the year.

Jazzi (“Here To Stay”): I really enjoy this, it is very camp and just a song that is pure fun. Sofia’s performance in the first semi-final I really felt got better as it went on, towards the end she was fully confident and in her element. I could imagine dancing to this in a Eurovision club night for sure.

Daniel (“Se Quién Soy”): Sé Quién Soy is by far the most complete package in Benidorm Fest by my money, Angy brings a fun and catchy pop rock melody, staging that makes the performance pop and some of the better vocals we’ve seen in Benidorm this year.

Spain’s Eurovision Journey

Spain debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1961 with Conchita Bautista’s “Estando Contigo”. The country earned its first win in 1968 with Massiel’s “La La La”, and won again in 1969 with Salome’s “Vivo Cantando” in an infamous four-way tie. Although they have yet to win again, Spain earned several 2nd place finishes, most famously with Mocedades’ “Eres tu” in 1973 and Anabel Conde’s “Vuelve conmigo” in 1996.

In 2023, Spain selected Blanca Paloma to carry on the success of Chanel in 2022. As part of the Big 5, Blanca Paloma did not need to qualify to the Grand Final from the semi-finals. At the close of voting, her song “EAEA” finished 17th, with a total of 100 points. Of these, 95 points came from the jury, whilst 5 came from the televote.
