Skylerr, who participated in Vidbir last night, has announced that she has withdrawn from the selection.

Skylerr’s reasons for withdrawal

In a statement posted to her Instagram, Skylerr explains that she has decided to withdraw due to the problems with the voting system. After the voting period had been extended due to faults with the Diia app, she feels that it may no longer be a “transparent and clear vote”, because “votes may have been counted incorrectly. But, she still thanked her team and said that she had an unbelievable experience competing in the national selection.

However, Ukrainian broadcaster Suspilne has since announced in a statement that no artist can withdraw from the final as all of the performances have taken place. Should Skylerr win, she may instead refuse to sign a contract with the broadcaster that is necessary to participate in the contest.

Ukraine’s Eurovision History

Ukraine is one of the most successful countries to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. The country has scored eight top-five placements, with an extra four top-ten finishes. Ukraine won the Contest three times – in 2004, 2016 and 2022 respectively. Ukraine made history for being the first ex-Soviet country to win the Contest more than once.

In 2023, TVORCHI represented Ukraine as co-host entry in Liverpool with their song “Heart of Steel”. The duo finished in 6th place, scoring 243 points – of which 54 points came from the jury, whilst the remaining 189 points came from the televote.
