As we now have the songs competing for this year’s competition in Malmö, the team at That Eurovision Site will be reacting to the entries that will be participating at Eurovision 2024. The next entry we will be reacting to is Azerbaijan, who will be competing in this year’s competition with “Özünlə Apar” by FAHREE feat. Ilkin Dovlatov.
Our thoughts on “Özünlə Apar”
In this series, we will be providing our opinions in two methods. One of our team members will be reacting on video, which you can see below, whilst up to three other members will be giving their written opinion on the entry. Tim will be on the main seat and will be giving his reaction to “Özünlə Apar”
What did the other members of the team think of “Özünlə Apar”?
Jazzi : I really like the traditional elements of this. This feels so different for what Azerbaijan usually send to Eurovision. However I think this can work and possibly get them back to the final. FAHREE has a great voice and this feels very authentic to Azerbaijan and FAHREE as an artist, which is something I have been very over critical of Azerbaijan in the past. Again in such a loud year, I feel something more mellow and traditional has the chance to actually really stand out this year if they get the staging right.
Euan: When I say this is everything I’ve wanted from Azerbaijan for years, I truly mean it. The return to picking truly authentic and purely dramatic style is has been needing to happen for years and they’ve definitely pulled it out of the bag with this. The way in which the song build the drama and encaptivates the listener to the traditional climax is unmatched this year. If Azerbaijan return to their era of great over the top staging and construct something that matches the energy of this entry well, I can really see them returning to the final this year.

Azerbaijan’s Eurovision Journey
Azerbaijan is a powerhouse in Eurovision, first debuting in 2008 with the song “Day After Day” by Elnur & Samir, finishing 8th. The country has since gone on to achieve five top-5 performances, including one win in 2011. Azerbaijan has a near perfect qualification record, only failing to make the final in 2018 and 2023.
For 2023, Azerbaijan was represented by twins TuralTuranX with their song “Tell Me More”. Perfoming in the first semi-final, the duo failed to qualify for the final for the second time, receiving only 4 points from the televote.
