Eurovision in Malmö is now just over a month away. In the lead-up to the start of rehearsals, we will get to know a bit more about this year’s artists, their discography, and their Eurovision 2024 journey so far. First up, we will preview the Cyprus’ 2024 representative Silia Kapsis.

Silia Kapsis’ Eurovision Journey So Far…

Silia Kapsis was internally selected by Cypriot Broadcaster CyBC late last year. Following on from this, Silia later went on to release her Eurovision 2024 song “Liar”. It was later confirmed that Silia will open the first Eurovision 2024 semi-final in Malmö on May 7th.

Who is Silia Kapsis?

Silia Kapsis was announced as Cyprus’ representative all the way back in September of 2023. She’s 17, born in Australia to a Cypriot father and Greek mother, and has been performing since she was four years old.

Silia kickstarted her music career when she was 12 years old with her single “Who Am I?”. In 2023 in the lead up to Eurovision, Silia then went on to release a further three singles entitled “No Boys Allowed”, “Disco Dancer” and “Night Out”. Silia has also been the lead singer at the Australian Youth Performing Arts Company, which holds events all over Sydney.

“Liar” was written by Eurovision hitmaker Dimitris Kontopoulos, alongside Elke Tiel. “Liar”‘s onstage choreography will be done by Dreamworks and Nickelodeon alums Kelly Sweeney and Guy Groove

Cyprus’ Eurovision Journey

The Mediterranean nation made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981, where Island participated with the song “Monika” and place 6th. Since then, Cyprus has participated 39 times (32 of which where they qualified for the Grand Final).

In 2023, CyBC internally selected Andrew Lambrou to represent them in Liverpool with the song “Break A Broken Heart”. During their participation in Liverpool, Andrew qualified for the final, before going on to finish in 12th place with a total of 126 points. The juries gave Cyprus 68 points, whilst the televote awarded Andrew 58 points.
