As we now have the songs competing for this year’s competition in Malmö, the team at That Eurovision Site will be reacting to the entries that will be participating at Eurovision 2024. The next entry we will be reacting to is Iceland, who will be competing in this year’s competition with “Scared of Heights” by Hera Björk.
Our thoughts on “Scared of Heights”
In this series, we will be providing our opinions in two methods. One of our team members will be reacting on video, which you can see below, whilst up to three other members will be giving their written opinion on the entry. Tim will be on the main seat and will be giving his reaction to “Scared of Heights”
What did the other members of the team think of “Scared of Heights”?
Jazzi : I feel this is fun, however I am not sure if in 2024 this entry will have enough of an impact compared to other songs in this year’s contest. I think what you hear is really fun and enjoyable and this will get people up and dancing in Euroclubs however I am not sure if there is enough to make this song stand out in this year’s field.
Daniel: The annual wine mum representative, I don’t necessarily dislike the song, but there were better songs in Söngvakeppnin and there are better songs in Eurovision, whilst there is certainly appeal here I really don’t think it will be enough to return Iceland to the final. Also I much prefer the Icelandic version.

Iceland’s Eurovision Journey
Iceland made its debut on the Eurovision stage in 1986, finishing 16th with the song “Gleðibankinn” (Bank of Fun) by ICY. In their 35 appearances, Iceland has finished in top 10 an impressive 7 times. Their best result to date is second place, which they have achieved twice. The first time was in 1999, where Selma Björnsdóttir received 146 points for her performance of “All Out of Luck”. The second time was in 2009, with Yohanna singing “Is It True” and receiving 218 points.
Iceland’s most recent representative on the Eurovision stage was Diljá, singing “Power” in Liverpool. At the close of the voting, Diljá finished 11th in the semi-final with 44 points from the televote. This meant that Iceland missed out on qualifying for the final.
