The Winners
Kalush Orchestra – “Вітер виє”
Kalush Orchestra return to the round-up with “Вітер виє” (The wind is howling). A musically haunting track. Over on YouTube they note that KALUSH and Kalush Orchestra have a lot of songs about love, but that each one is different because they look at it from a different angle. And “Вітер виє”‘s angle? This one is about the difference between falling in love and being in love.
KALUSH x Adam x Balsam – “Останній раз”
The “Останній раз” (The last time) KALUSH were in this round-up was last month, but these guys just love making music. Just like their tracks from March, this is part of the KALUSHcollab project, and the YouTube description seems to tease that we will get a proper album out of this project at some point or another. For now we get a collab with Adam and Balsam to create a rap track that is heavily dominated by a lovely sounding acoustic guitar.
Carolina Deslandes, Salvador Sobral – “Letra de Médico”
Okay, so this is part of an album and musical(!) that has its own segment on the last page of the round-up so head there for context, but of course the one track of the project that includes a Eurovision winner gets its own entry too. “Letra de Médico” (Doctor’s handwriting) is a gorgeous, gentle track about how seemingly impossible it is to try and understand life, and particularly the deeply unserious bad luck, irony, and more can be thrown at you when it comes to love. While Salvador brings his great voice to this track, the lyric- and songwriting is all Carolina Deslandes (one half of the team behind the musical, more on that later) and Pedro Mourato.
