Other Highlights
There is way too much music released every month to cover in-depth, but here are some of the best and biggest new tracks from other Eurovision artists:
Kasper Bjørke – “Corridor Of Dreams” (feat. Sísý Ey, Systur & Oilly Wallace)
The Systur fans among you might read the header above and ask: Systur and Sísý Ey? Aren’t they basically one and the same. Well yes, but there is a reason for both names to be used here. While the lovely guitars and harmonies we are used to from Systur appear on this track, sonically it is much closer to their house-adjacent project Sísý Ey. The track is one of two on Kasper Bjørke’s new album “Puzzles” to feature the sisters, with the other song being pre-release single “Conversations”.
O.Torvald – “Втома” (LP)
After almost breaking up the band before deciding otherwise late last year, O.Torvald have now found the time to release an entire album! “Втома” (Fatigue) is a strong 10 track long rock effort. After opening with the swaggering “704”, the album moves on to tracks such as the anthemic “Амстердам” (Amsterdam) and the dark, emotional, powerful closing title track. Highly recommend!
Maja Keuc – “Labirint”
Maja Keuc (Slovenia 2011) is going into a “Labirint” (Labyrinth) on her new song. The song, written together with producer Martin Štibernik (Amaya, Nina Pušlar, Batista Cadillac) is a beautiful adult contemporary pop-rock piece about a difficult but in the end rewarding relationship. The song is the first out of 10 track on her upcoming album “Sončnice”, which will be out May 17th.
Benjamin Ingrosso – “Better Days”
Well, Benjamin Ingrosso just can’t stop surprising me. His latest single is the psychedelic pop meets late 80s rock inspired “Better Days”, which also lends its name to his upcoming tour. Anthemic and hopeful in bots its lyrics and music, this is quite the treat!
Soraya – “ALAS”
Soraya’s new song “ALAS” (WINGS) has a fittingly soaring sound. The 2009 Spain representative is a melancholic yet hopeful track about being thankful for the loved ones who shaped your life, even long after they have passed. The song sees Soraya once again working with Rafa Vergara, Vicky Echeverri, Juanfran Parra, and Eduardo Echavarria.
PIA MARIA – “Mess with me”
PIA MARIA pulls out some prime 00s beats on new track “Mess with me” as she asks the person she has an eye on to not mess with her. This is the kind of song that gets me dancing, and I think it will do the same for you. To write the track, PIA MARIA teamed up with Richard Oliver Gillissen (PIA’s “Love Is a Circus”) and producer Kevin Lehr (“Always on the run”, Tagtraeumer, Die Draufgänger).
AWS – “Senki nincs már ébren”
Hungarian post-hardcore outfit AWS have been consistently releasing music recently, and their latest single is “Senki nincs már ébren” (Nobody is awake anymore). Musically this track hits as hard as the band always does, which is to say: very. There is one big departure for the band on this track though, as the music video is unlike anything they have ever done. Instead of showing the band playing music, this tells a sci-fi horror story, with the band stating that it is an attempt to provide listeners with the tools to interpret the song’s lyrics.
Brooke – “Love Bomb”
Brooke serves up a love bomb on new track, uhhh, “Love Bomb”. The track is both seductive yet moody in its music and lyrics, as Brooke sings about someone she could live with happily if only things were a little different. The track saw its live debut last month as Brooke performed on Dancing with the Stars Ireland.
Jeangu Macrooy – “Young, Awkward & Lonely”
Jeangu Macrooy is reflecting on feeling “Young, Awkward & Lonely” on his latest, beautiful song. The only thing warmer than the stellar guitar line is Jeangu’s amazing voice. His excellent songwriting is further enhanced by the subtle but strong production by Jasper Zuidervaart (Chef’Special, Jack and the Weatherman, Celine Cairo).
Go_A – “Krip”
The Ukrainian 2021 representatives are on tour, and to celebrate that they released their new song “Krip” (Dill). This is quintessential Go_A, from the singing to the beat to the lyrics about nature. Or, well, really a garden in this case. But you get the idea.
