With hours to go until he performs at the final of Eurovision 2024, Latvia’s performer Dons is reportedly ‘considering’ adding Latvian lyrics to his song.

Latvian lyrics already written

Dons successfully qualified for the final from the second semi-final on Thursday (May 9th). This brought Latvia’s non-qualification streak to an end after eight years. As a result, the Latvian delegation has reportedly discussed the possibility of adding Latvian lyrics.

Speaking to Latvian public broadcaster LTV, Dons himself said that the delegation has nothing to lose. He admitted:

Well, we have nothing to lose. If we are already this far, then let’s show what we can do! Let’s go and just enjoy!

The song’s lyrics have already been translated into Latvian, as Dons sang part of his winning reprise in Supernova in his native tongue. Currently, the team is looking into the logistics of changing the lyrics and whether this could be green-lighted by the EBU. Typically, performances are expected to be exactly the same in each show, with only minimal changes made to the staging.

Latvia’s Eurovision journey

Latvia made their Eurovision debut in 2000, finishing 3rd with “My Star” by Brainstorm. They have performed at every contest since and managed to win in 2002. Marie N sang “I Wanna,” scoring 176 points and bringing Eurovision to Riga in the process. Latvia also managed to finish in the top 10 two more times, in 2005 and 2015.

Latvia’s most recent entry on the Eurovision stage was Sudden Lights, who performed “Aijā”. The song failed to qualify from the semi-final, finishing 11th with 34 points from the televote.
