Slovenia’s national broadcaster, RTV SLO, has written an open letter to the EBU questioning their logic for certain aspects of Eurovision 2024.
RTV SLO asking for clarifications
In the letter, which was published on the website of RTV SLO, the broadcaster lays out the reasoning for creating the letter. Officials from the broadcaster gathered some of the most urgent questions raised by delegations, fans and journalists alike.
The broadcaster insisted that it was happy to participate in the Contest and be a part of the history of Eurovision itself. However, the station says its because of this desire that questions needed to be raised, with clarifications expected from the EBU. In the open letter, RTV SLO requested specific voting data for its domestic market. They explained:
Televizija Slovenija EBU tako prosi za podatke o glasovanju slovenskega občinstva, ne zgolj števila glasov, ampak natančne podatke, kako je glasovalo slovensko občinstvo. Skupni rezultat namreč vzbuja nekaj dvomov, predvsem veliko število ‘novih’ glasovalcev na spletu, ki jih doslej ni bilo.
Television Slovenia is therefore asking the EBU for data on the voting of the Slovenian audience, not just the number of votes, but exact data on how the Slovenian audience voted. The total result raises some doubts, especially the large number of ‘new’ online voters, which have not been there before.

As well as this, RTV SLO also advocated for a number of other clarities. Among other things, the broadcaster asked the EBU for its reasoning to disqualify the Netherlands so late. They also asked for explanations on the use of anti-booing technology, the ban on the EU flag and the potential influence of MoroccanOil, the sponsor for this year’s event.
One last point raised included the point in having the Rest of the World vote. The broadcaster questioned the point in having a Contest, when those outside of those participating can influence the vote. The EBU is yet to respond to the points raised by RTV SLO.
Slovenia’s Eurovision journey
In 1993, Slovenia made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest with 1X Band and the song “Tih deževen dan”, which placed 22nd. Since their debut, they have participated 28 times – of which, 16 were where they qualified for the Grand Final. Slovenia’s recent Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Raiven, who sang the song “Veronika”. Performing at the first semi-final, Raiven placed 9th, therefore qualifying for the final for the second consecutive time. At the final, Slovenia finished in 23rd place, receiving 27 points. Of these, 15 came from the jury and 12 from the televote.
