A group of well-known Bulgarian musicians attended the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in the hopes of forming a delegation to bring the nation back to the show.
“Bulgarian folk needs to be in Eurovision”
Bulgaria has been missing from the Eurovision Song Contest since 2022, after the Intelligent Music Project failed to qualify for the show. Since then, broadcaster BNT has been absent from the show. Following their initial return to the competition in 2016, BNT struggled to fund the cost of the show. Several options for funding were explored, including sponsorships and partnering with other commercial broadcasters.
However, in 2023, Bulgaria announced its withdrawal from the Contest, repeating it once again for 2024. Now, a group of well-known Bulgarian stars are looking to bring the nation back. Speaking to Bulgarian outlet TheVoice.bg, Mila Robert, Mishel and Mona have been seen attending this year’s show in Malmö. The trio said their hopes are to return to the show, as delegations have missed their participations.
It’s a big party and very often people ask us, ‘Hey, where is Bulgaria? Why isn’t Bulgaria here? We miss them a lot.’
A lot of people ask us where Bulgaria is. We have to point it out to them.

Some of the artists said they would enter a song into the selection themselves if Bulgaria returned to the competition. The trio are exceptionally popular in Bulgaria with their solo careers, and said that Bulgarian culture would be prime and centre. Mila Robert, however, appeared to dodge the question.
Bulgaria’s national broadcaster BNT has not yet confirmed or denied whether they will be taking part in Eurovision next year. The official Twitter account for the station, however, did repost the interview.
Bulgaria’s Eurovision journey
Bulgaria are a country that really want to win the Eurovision Song Contest, especially since their return in 2016. Bulgaria debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2005 with the song ‘Lorraine’ sung by Kaffe, the song came 19th in the semi final scoring 49 points. Bulgaria’s best ever result came in 2017 with ‘Beautiful Mess’ by Kristian Kostov, the song placed 2nd in the Grand Final that year scoring 615 points. In 2022, Bulgaria was represented by the Intelligent Music Project in Turin, where they sang the song “Intention”, placing 16th in the Semi-Final with 29 points.
