Selections for Junior Eurovision 2024 are well underway. Following on closing their application process earlier this week, it has been revealed that Suspilne have received 309 applications for Junior Eurovision 2024.
309 applications for Ukraine’s Junior Eurovision 2024 national final
Suspilne have revealed that of the 309 applications they received, 272 of these are from solo performers. Of the solo performers, 83% of these applicants were girls. From the total submissions, 19% of them were original compositions. Suspilne will now narrow the applicants down to a maximum of 15 by July 25th.
The successful hopefuls will then be invited to a “star school” where they will take part in auditions, as well as receive performance training for the national final. The selection will take place in September.
Speaking about the selection, producer Svitlana Tarabarova said the following
“48 hours of happiness, joy, interesting discoveries, and unexpected moments. Sometimes shock, sometimes admiration, but always about music, always about love. This is how my last two days of selection and reviewing the record 309 applications have passed. Goosebumps in anticipation of the achievements that lie ahead for our children.”
Svitlana, as well as songwriter Yevhen Triplov, will oversee composition and writing of 6 songs for the national selection, while creative director Yevhen Kot, will look at the visuals of these performances.
Ukraine’s Junior Eurovision Journey
In 2006, Ukraine made their debut to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, with Nazar Slyusarchuk and the song “Khlopchyk Rock ‘n’ Roll” (Хлопчик рок ‘н’ ролл), which placed 9th. Since their debut, the Eastern European nation has participated 17 times, and even won once in 2012 with Anastasiya Petryk and her song “Nebo” (Небо).
In 2022, Ukraine selected its representative through a national final, where Anastasia Dymyd won the right to represent the nation with “Kvitka”, which managed to place 5th receiving 128 points from the jury and online vote.
