Applications for Malta’s national final, Malta Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024, have opened. They will remain open until August 19th 2024.
Malta Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024 Rules
As usual, Malta will use the Malta Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024 to select its act for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024, which will take place in Madrid on the 16th of November. A jury assembled by PBS will choose 14 finalists during the initial selection process. There will then be a final on the 21st of September, which will see the finalists perform their songs live. The contest results will be decided by a combination of the jury vote (80%) and a public vote (20%). The submission deadline closes on the 19th of August. PBS will reveal the finalists a week later on the 26th of August. The final will take place on the 21st of September.
Malta in Junior Eurovision
In 2003, Malta was one of the countries to participate in the inaugural edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest with Sarah Harrison and the song “Like A Star”, which placed 7th. The Mediterranean nation participated until 2010, where it took a break and returned in 2013 with Gaia Cauchi and “The Start”, which was their first win in the competition. It wasn’t long until they achieved their second win in 2015, where Destiny Chukunyere won with her song “Not My Soul”. Destiny went on to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2021 with “Je Me Casse”, where she placed seventh.
Malta’s most recent participation was in 2023, where they were represented by Yulan performing “Stronger”. In Nice she scored a total of 94 points, finishing 10th.
