With the new year commencing, more countries are revealing if they will be joining the party in Basel, with Georgia becoming the latest country to confirm its participation at Eurovision 2025.
Possible change in selection method?
Georgian broadcaster GPB confirmed to ESCtoday that they will participate in the upcoming edition of the contest. However, as of the time of writing, the selection method for the Georgian selection has not been revealed. In recent years, Georgia has alternated between using a national final and an internal selection. Their latest entrant, Nutsa Buzaladze, was chosen internally and returned Georgia to the final for the first time since 2016.
Georgia in Eurovision
Georgiaโs history in Eurovision has been mixed since they began competing in 2007, represented by Sopho Khalvashi with “Visionary Dream”. Their highest placements โ both coming in 9th โ were achieved in 2010 and 2011, with Sopho Niharadze performing Shine and Eldrine with One More Day. They have not qualified for the final since 2016, where they were represented by Nika Kocharov & Young Georgian Lolitaz with Midnight Gold.
For 2024, former American Idol contestant Nutsa Buzaladze represented Georgia with her song “Firefighter”. In Malmรถ, Georgia qualified for the Grand Final for the first time since 2016. In the Grand Final Nutsa received 34 points, 19 of these were from the televoters, while the other 15 were from the national juries.
