Not long after we started the new Eurovision season, we have a representative! This time, Cyprus has the honour of kicking off the season, as Cypriot broadcaster CyBC announces that Theo Evan will be their representative at Eurovision 2025.
The first representative to be announced for Eurovision 2025
Cyprus confirmed their Eurovision 2025 participation in the summer, and that it was reported that an internal selection will be used to select Silia Kapsis’ successor. Since then it was reported that CyBC is set to announce their representative in early September, which has now come to fruition. Further details about Theo’s entry for Switzerland, will be revealed at a later date.
Born and raised in Nicosia and attended Berklee College of Music
Theo Evan was born and raised in Nicosia to a Greek/Cypriot family. At the age of 7, he attended a local dance school, where he managed to earn medals in dance competition and perform for other artists. He then went on to join his school choir, which incolved him performing in musicals, which in turn helped him uncover his own artistry. Curious about music, he then attended Berklee College of Music.
Cyprus’ Eurovision Journey
The Mediterranean nation made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981, where Island participated with the song “Monika” and place 6th. Since then, Cyprus has participated 40 times (33 of which where they qualified for the Grand Final).
In 2024, CyBC internally selected Silia Kapsis to represent them in Malmö with the song “Liar”. During her participation in Malmö, Silia qualified for the final, before going on to finish in 15th place with a total of 78 points. The juries gave Cyprus 34 points, whilst the televote awarded Silia 44 points.
