Immediately after winning Junior Eurovision 2024, Georgian broadcaster GPB has revealed that it is ready to host next year’s competition.
“We are ready to host the Junior Eurovision Song Contest”
Speaking about Georgia’s win, Tinatin Berdzenishvili, the Director of GPB commented on Georgia’s win in the competition, mentioning:
All countries with a high musical culture gave us 12 points. The audience vote was also important for us, we received very high points from all over Europe, it is a well-deserved victory. Georgia is a musical country where this culture is at its peak. Andria performed the song the best, he made the whole country proud. I congratulate all of Georgia on this success,”
Speaking about hosting next year’s competition, Tinatin Berdzenishvili mentions that they are ready to host and that GPB will meet with the EBU for discussions.
We are a small country, we do not have a large diaspora, but a miracle happened, I think the whole of Europe supported a good singer, a very good number and our country, Georgia. From here we are going to a meeting with the European Broadcasting Union, we will discuss what and how it will happen, but we are ready to host the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in our country.
The rules on hosting Junior Eurovision are different, as winning countries do not automatically get the right to host the competition, Junior Eurovision 2024 was held in Madrid, Spain, following Sandra Valero’s second-place finish at the 2023 contest in Nice. 2023 winner France was offered first refusal for hosting rights, but declined to host the contest for a second year in a row.
Should it come to fruition, this would be the 2nd time that Georgia will host the competition, following their hosting in 2017.
