Who are our favourites from Eurosong 2025?
We ranked the songs taking part in Eurosong, using a 1-8 ranking. 1 being our favourite, 8 being our least favourite song. We then calculated the average of all our rankings. Right below, you can see our top three for this selection.
3rd. Mentissa – “Désolée” (3.67):
2nd. Red Sebastian – “Strobe Lights” (3.17):
1st. Le Manou – “Fille à papa” (1.67):
What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from Eurosong 2025?
Angus (Mentissa): Désolée is a delightful slice of modern French-language pop. Mentissa has the perfect voice for this song, and really turns this song with its funky underpinnings into a song you just want to immediately listen to again. Instead of writing more about it, I am going to do just that
Kittens (Red Sebastian): I feel like I’ve been waiting for a song like this all season. Something that grabs my attention AND holds it, that has been missing from a lot of nf songs so far. Add to that a stunning vocal line with plenty of flex to show off, and I find myself hungry to see a full staging of this. Can’t wait to see what they do
Rory (Le Manou): This song is packed with energy and once again proves that French-language songs in a Belgian selection are the best. To be honest, none of the songs really stand out to me, but this has the opportunity to be a big moment on stage and can easily become an earworm so if “Fille à papa” is chosen, this could be a big grower in Basel.
What is Eurosong?
Eurosong is a selection method that has been used on and off in Belgium throughout their participation in the contest. In recent years its usage has been more sporadic. The selection nowadays is usually used solely by the Flemish speaking broadcaster VRT but has in the past been used by both. Eurosong in its name however. was first used in 1959.
The layout of the national selection has changed many times over the years and does not have a consistent format. French speaking broadcaster RTBF has solely used an internal selection to select their entry since 2015. VRT used a selection right up until 2016, however in 2018, 2020 and 2021 they too opted for an internal selection. Traditionally since 2001, VRT take the reins for the contest every other year, this was traditionally in years that ended with an even number, until the Covid 19 pandemic hit and it changed to odd numbers.
Belgium’s Eurovision Journey
Belgium was one of the debutant countries at the beginning of the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1956. For the first edition, countries could submit two songs, and for Belgium that year, ‘Messieurs les noyès de la Seine’ by Fud Leclerc and ‘Le plus beau jour de ma vie’ by Mony Marc represented the nation. To this day we do not know the final results of Eurovision 1956. Belgium have taken part in 64 Eurovision Song Contests; however, they have only ever won once: in 1986 with Sandra Kim and the song ‘J’amie la vie’, scoring 176 points.
Following an impressive seventh place in 2023, Belgium chose Mustii to represent them with “Before The Party’s Over” in 2024. Mustii scored eighteen points in the second semifinal, placing thirteenth.
