Three of the members of Wig Wam joined Shiloh to discuss their recent American tour, their experience at Eurovision 2005, how “Human Fire” was written, and more!

About Wig Wam

Formed in Halden, Norway in 2001, Wig Wam’s original lineup of Åge Sten Nilsen, Trond Holter, Bernt Jansen, and Øystein Andersen has remained unchanged since then. The band members also use the stage names Glam, Teeny, Flash, and Sporty respectively. Originally a cover band, they released their first album in 2004.

That same year, they competed in Melodi Grand Prix 2004, placing third with their song “Crazy Things”. A year later, they won the national final and represented Norway in Kyiv with the song “In My Dreams”, which placed ninth overall and brought Eurovision one of its earliest rock entries. Their Eurovision entry proved a breakthrough hit in Norway and throughout Europe, and they released three more albums and toured extensively before breaking up in 2014.

The band reunited in 2019 and released their fifth album, Never Say Die, in 2021. In 2022, their song “Do Ya Wanna Taste It” was used as the theme song for HBO Max’s Peacemaker; the soundtrack also included “In My Dreams”. As a result, they achieved a new following in the United States, and embarked on their first US tour in 2023 shortly after releasing their sixth studio album.

Norway’s Eurovision journey

The Scandinavian nation made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1960, with Nora Brockstedt and the song “Voi Voi”, which placed 4th. Since their debut, they have participated 62 times, and made the Grand Final 59 of these. In addition, Norway has won the competition three times – in 1985, 1995, and 2009.

Norway’s latest Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Gåte with the song “Ulveham”. After qualifying for the final, Norway placed 25th and last place in the Grand Final, receiving 16 points, 12 of which from the jury and 4 from televoters.
