Ahead of their participation in Festival da Canção 2025, Rory chats with Luca Argel about his potential Eurovision song “Quem foi?”. Luca Argel – together with Pri Azevedo – will perform in the second semi-final of Festival da Canção on March 1st.

In the interview, Rory and Luca discuss the meaning of the song and how being Brazilian has influenced the songwriting process. He also chats about the backlash he has received due to his Brazilian heritage despite participating in Festival da Canção which was also felt by Leo Middea last year. The pair then go on to chat about Eurovision, where he appeals to fans to break into the Portuguese-language music scene.
Who are Luca Argel and Pri Azevedo?
Luca Argel is a Portuguese-Brazilian singer and poet. Luca grew up in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil before moving to Portugal about a decade ago. His first album was released in 2017 and since then, he has immersed himself in the Portuguese music scene. He has released five albums under his own name, with the sixth album being released in October.
Pri Azevedo is a multi-instrumentalist, also born in Brazil. She has been able to play a host of musical instruments including the piano and the accordion. Together with Luca, Pri has released a number of singles, all of whom have charted highly in Portugal.
“Quem foi?”, Luca and Pri’s song for Festival da Canção, was written entirely by Luca himself.
Portugal’s Eurovision journey
Portugal debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest with António Calvário’s “Oração” in 1964. Since then, Portugal has participated in the competition 55 times – appearing the final 46 times. Their only win in the competition came in 2017 with Salvador Sobral, performing his heart-wrenching song “Amar Pelos Dois”.
Portugal’s most recent participation was with iolanda with the song “Grito”. iolanda managed to qualify for the Grand Final and once there, she finished in 10th place. She received a total of 152 points, of which 139 points came from the jury and 13 points came the televote.
