As the songs competing for this year’s competition in Basel continue to be selected, the team at That Eurovision Site will react to the entries that will be participating at Eurovision 2025. The next entry we will react to is Latvia, which will be competing in this year’s competition with “Bur Man Iaimi” by Tautumeitas.

Our thoughts on “Bur Man Iaimi”

In this series, we will provide our opinions via two methods. One of our team members will be reacting on video, which you can see below, whilst up to three members will give their written opinion on the entry. Rory will be on the main seat and will be showing his reaction to “Bur Man Iaimi”

What did the other team members think of “Bur Man Iaimi”?

Daniel: I’ve made it no secret that I just adore this. I was absolutely mesmerised from the first listen of even the snippet. The harmonies the girls create are absolutely beautiful, the instrumental hits me in all the right ways, and their staging concept is for sure Eurovision ready. I absolutely love that we’re getting more songs like this one at the contest.

Kittens: I’m not quite as mesmerised as Daniel is but I do think this was a good choice for Latvia and a good choice for the contest. I’ve come round to this song in listening sessions, and I feel like the sumptuous nature of the vocals really calls you into it. I do think that this might struggle to find it’s place at Eurovision itself, and might get drowned out in a televote only semi, but that’s more a reflection on the energy of televoters than the song itself.

Tim: I would like to point out that this was not my winner of Supernova 2025, I do admire Latvia, because now that they returned to the final in 2024, it felt that they needed to up the ante and to send something sleek, and in the Latvian language (something we haven’t had in a long time), just shows how they are starting to take things seriously. I hope they are rewarded for the risk they are taking.

Latvia’s Eurovision Journey

Latvia made their Eurovision debut in 2000, finishing 3rd with “My Star” by Brainstorm. They have performed at every contest since and managed to win in 2002. Marie N sang “I Wanna,” scoring 176 points and bringing Eurovision to Riga in the process. Latvia also managed to finish in the top 10 two more times, in 2005 and 2015.

Latvia’s most recent entry on the Eurovision stage was Dons, who performed “Hollow”. The song qualified from the semi-final. This is the country’s first qualification since 2016. In the Grand Final Dons finished in 16th with 64 points. Of these points 26 were from the public vote, and 38 were from the national juries.
