As the songs competing for this year’s competition in Basel continue to be selected, the team at That Eurovision Site will react to the entries that will be participating at Eurovision 2025. The next entry we will react to is Armenia, which will be competing in this year’s competition with “Survivor” by PARG.

Our thoughts on “Survivor”

In this series, we will provide our opinions via two methods. One of our team members will be reacting on video, which you can see below, whilst up to three members will give their written opinion on the entry. Tim will be on the main seat and will be showing his reaction to “Survivor”

What did the other team members think of “Survivor”?

Daniel: There are ten credited songwriters on this. Including three Eurovision winning ones. Yet none of them could think up a better alternative to the genuinely awful line “I’m a survivor, a stay aliver.” Perhaps I’m being overly harsh because of what came before this, but the parallels between this and “Jako” are night and day. Jako was in your face levels of Armenian, whilst this is so plain and generic that it could have come from literally anywhere, I know which archetype of song I’d rather see representing Armenia at Eurovision.

Molly: I think this song struggles at a vocal level and I think yes it may have some appeal there is definitely some potential in “SURVIVOR” if they added more to the staging because PARG has a lot of charisma that can be used to elevate the song if there was just more added visually. especially during the beginning of the performance. Yes LED’S do work but the performance just fully replies on it. I hope they just add more to the staging to help elevate the song.

Angus: Not to harp too much on the ten (!) songwriters after Daniel already did that, but I feel this song is a clear case of too many cooks spoil the broth. There are plenty of individual elements in the song that work on their own. I even think that PARG could be a pretty entertaining performer with his own POV. But ‘SURVIVOR’? It feels like a purely corporate, check all the boxes for the kind of song we are making regardless of whether any of it works together affair. What we are left with is this weird mess that probably was a lot better or at least interesting about 25 drafts earlier.

Armenia’s Eurovision Journey

In 2006, Armenia made their debut into the Eurovision Song Contest, where André represented the nation with his entry “Without Your Love”, placing 8th overall. Since their debut, Armenia has participated 16 times, 13 of which saw them make the Grand Final. Their best result, in 2008 and 2014, was 4th place; in 2008, Sirusho and “Qélé Qélé”, and in 2014, Aram MP3 with “Not Alone”.

French-Armenian band Ladaniva represented Armenia at the most recent contest, where they ultimately scored eighth in the grand final. Between the televote and the juries, “Jako” received 138 total points.
