As the songs competing for this year’s competition in Basel continue to be selected, the team at That Eurovision Site will react to the entries that will be participating at Eurovision 2025. The next entry we will react to is Denmark, which will be competing in this year’s competition with “Hallucination” by Sissal.

Our thoughts on “Hallucination”

In this series, we will provide our opinions via two methods. One of our team members will be reacting on video, which you can see below, whilst up to three members will give their written opinion on the entry. Molly will be on the main seat and will be showing her reaction to “Hallucination”

What did the other team members think of “Hallucination”?

Jonathan: It’s great to see a song that’s apologetically a vocally-impressive fun in your face pop song. There’s no desire to chase trends, just sing well and do Euro-pop properly. An underrated entry, especially since its natural competitor is Spain and Denmark does it (for my money) much better.

Tim: Denmark’s recent run in the competition is breaking my heart. Now obviously if you know me, you’d know that “Hallucination” was not my winner for Dansk Melodi Grand Prix. HOWEVER…. I would say that Denmark popped off selecting this, cos Sissal is a performer, and she proved how much she captivates the stage when she performs “Hallucination”, I’m hoping Denmark makes it to the final this time.

Euan: Eurodance in Eurovision tends to be dated and translates poorly at Eurovision; ‘Hallucination’ bucks that trend. The song doesn’t fall too hard into the nostalgia stream, and manages to stand on its own as a great number. Even with the most lacklustre staging that we saw at DMGP Sissal still managed to absolutely belt out a fantastic stage show, and her presence filled the stage. I need them to stage this well in Basel because it deserves such a good result.

Denmark’s Eurovision Journey

Denmark first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1957 and notched up their first win in 1963 with Grethe and Jørgan Ingmann’s “Dansevise”. Denmark later earned two third-place finishes in 1988 and 1989 but was then relegated three times in 1994, 1996, and 1998. They finally achieved their second victory in 2000 with the Olsen Brothers’ “Fly on the Wings of Love”, and have missed the Grand Final eight times since the introduction of the semi-finals. A six-year qualification streak from 2008 culminated in its third win in 2013 with Emmelie de Forrest’s “Only Teardrops”.

Most recently, Saba represented Denmark after winning their national selection with her song “Sand”. She placed twelfth in the second semifinal, scoring 36 points.
