RTBF chooses Michaël De Lil as their new Head Of Delegation for Belgium however, the changeover will be gradual as Michaël will be accompanied by Leslie Cable for 2026.
Who is Michaël De Lil?
Michaël has worked on many successful shows in the past, including the Belgian version of Drag Race. He has also worked on two other successful Belgian shows, such as Le 8/9 and Fort Boyard Belgique. He was born in Brussels on April 26, 1988. He worked on The Voice Belgique, which has been used to help pick Eurovision entrants in recent years, which has helped in Belgium‘s Eurovision success from 2004 to 2024.
How does Belgium work in Eurovision?
Belgium alternates between which broadcaster runs the delegation each year, with 2025 being run by VRT and 2026 being run by RTBF. VRT takes a more national selection approach with the Belgian Eurosong, whereas RTBF prefers to go internal. In 2024, the broadcaster picked Mustii, who performed in the second semi-final but did not qualify, ending up 13th with 18 points.
Belgium’s Eurovision Journey
Belgium was one of the debutant countries at the beginning of the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1956. For the first edition, countries could submit two songs, and for Belgium that year, ‘Messieurs les noyès de la Seine’ by Fud Leclerc and ‘Le plus beau jour de ma vie’ by Mony Marc represented the nation. To this day we do not know the final results of Eurovision 1956. Belgium have taken part in 64 Eurovision Song Contests; however, they have only ever won once: in 1986 with Sandra Kim and the song ‘J’amie la vie’, scoring 176 points.
Following an impressive seventh place in 2023, Belgium chose Mustii to represent them with “Before The Party’s Over” in 2024. Mustii scored eighteen points in the second semifinal, placing thirteenth.
