Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2026 to held in Frederikshavn

Following on from Sissal’s qualification for Denmark in Basel, DR has already started preparing for next year. DR has now confirmed that Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2026 will be held in the northern city of Frederikshavn.

The final will be held in the city’s Arena Nord, which can seat 4,000 people for concerts. The show will be held on February 14th at 8pm CET, with the children’s edition – DMGP Junior – being held one week later.

Speaking upon the reveal of the host city, Erik Struve Hansen – responsible for DMGP within DR – said people are already looking ahead to the final. He explained:

The ambition of Dansk Melodi Grand Prix is to bring Danes together across the board through music, and in its 69th year, it is an event that arouses commitment and emotions in many people

I am pleased because it means that the show, in a time when we are seeing each other more and more often, continues to be relevant and is something that people from all parts of the country relate to.

We look forward to bringing the Grand Prix party to Frederikshavn and, not least, to creating a show that Danes gather around in their living rooms.

Specific information regarding the submission of songs has not been released. Further details on how to submit a song to DR for the competition will be revealed in due course.

Denmark’s Eurovision journey

Denmark first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1957 and notched up their first win in 1963 with Grethe and Jørgan Ingmann’s “Dansevise”. Denmark later earned two third-place finishes in 1988 and 1989 but was then relegated three times in 1994, 1996, and 1998. They finally achieved their second victory in 2000 with the Olsen Brothers’ “Fly on the Wings of Love”, and have missed the Grand Final eight times since the introduction of the semi-finals. A six-year qualification streak from 2008 culminated in its third win in 2013 with Emmelie de Forrest’s “Only Teardrops”.

Sissal represented Denmark in 2025 with “Hallucination”. She qualified for the final, breaking Denmark’s five-year non-qualification streak. She would eventually finish in 23rd place, earning 47 points. Of these 45 came from juries, while 2 came from the televote.
