PBS, Malta’s national broadcaster, have confirmed that they will return to Junior Eurovision in 2025 and will select their representative using The Voice Kids Malta.
Malta confirms Junior Eurovision participation
The application site for The Voice Kids Malta confirms that it will be the vehicle for Malta’s Junior Eurovision selection. In previous years, PBS organized Malta Junior Eurovision Song Contest to select their song and artist.
The live final of The Voice Kids will see each contestant perform an original song to go to Junior Eurovision. In compliance with the rules of the contest, contestants must be between the ages of 9 and 14 by December 13th, 2025. They must sing live onstage and may apply with a cover or original song. Songs may be in English or Maltese, the official languages of Malta; Malta sent its first-ever Maltese Junior Eurovision entry last year. This year is only the second season of the Maltese edition of The Voice Kids. For more application details, see here.
Malta’s Junior Eurovision journey
In 2003, Malta was one of the countries to participate in the inaugural edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest with Sarah Harrison and the song โLike A Starโ, which placed 7th. The Mediterranean nation participated until 2010, where it took a break and returned in 2013 with Gaia Cauchi and โThe Startโ, which was their first win in the competition. It wasnโt long until they achieved their second win in 2015, where Destiny Chukunyere won with her song โNot My Soulโ. Destiny went on to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2021 with โJe Me Casseโ, where she placed seventh.
Ramires Sciberras represented Malta in 2024 with his song “Stilla ฤkejkna”. This was Malta’s first-ever Junior Eurovision entry in the Maltese language. Ramires did his language proud, placing fifth out of a total seventeen, and receiving 153 points – 74 from the jury and 79 from the online vote.
