Danish/Faroese singer and Eurovision 2025 participant Sissal will be trying out a different stage this autumn, as Danish broadcaster TV 2 announced this week that she will be one of the participants in Vild med Dans, the Danish equivalent to the British show Strictly Come Dancing.
From bodysuits to ballroom dresses
Sissal is one of 10 famous danes to compete in the 20th and final edition of “Vild med Dans”, which will air from September 26th on TV 2. She will be joined by dancer Eugen Miu, who won last years edition together with actress Anna Munch. The 30-year-old singer announced her excitement in a post on Instagram slowly after the reveal:
“…It’s totally surreal and a huge honor to be part of a program that I’ve followed closely on the sofa every friday with my family throughout my whole childhood. On top of that I have gotten the most amazing partner and I can’t wait to you what these legs can do… or cant do 😂 What a ride it’s gonna be! 🥹❤️
Ps. pls give me more than two votes every friday.”
Joining her on the show is everyone from actors to adventures, but among the participants we also find another former Eurovision alumni. TV host Camilla Ottesen will also be joining the ballroom, and while she has hosted countless programs on Danish television since the late 90’s, for Eurovision fans she is mostly known as one of the hosts of the first edition of Junior Eurovision Song Contest, back in 2003 in Copenhagen.
Not the first former Eurovision participant
While Sissal will be the last former Eurovision/DMGP participant to join the show, as TV 2 previously announced that this year’s edition will be the last, she isn’t the first. Since the first edition of Vild med Dans hit the screens back in 2005, 17 former DMGP or Eurovision stars have taken part in the competition, including Eurovision 2013 winner Emmelie de Forest and three-time-participant Kirsten Siggaard. The most successful former Eurovision participant is Johannes Nymark who came 2nd in the dancing competition in 2014, much better than the 17th place him and his band Lighthouse X got in the semi final at Eurovision in 2016. Only time will tell if Sissal will be able to top his 2nd place finish.
Denmark’s Eurovision journey
Denmark first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1957 and notched up their first win in 1963 with Grethe and Jørgan Ingmann’s “Dansevise”. Denmark later earned two third-place finishes in 1988 and 1989 but was then relegated three times in 1994, 1996, and 1998. They finally achieved their second victory in 2000 with the Olsen Brothers’ “Fly on the Wings of Love”, and have missed the Grand Final eight times since the introduction of the semi-finals. A six-year qualification streak from 2008 culminated in its third win in 2013 with Emmelie de Forrest’s “Only Teardrops”.
Sissal represented Denmark in 2025 with “Hallucination”. She qualified for the final, breaking Denmark’s five-year non-qualification streak. She would eventually finish in 23rd place, earning 47 points. Of these 45 came from juries, while 2 came from the televote.
