Eurovision in Basel is just less than a month away. In the lead-up to the start of rehearsals, we will get to know a bit more about this year’s artists, their discography, and their Eurovision 2025 journey so far. Up next, we will preview Denmark’s Sissal.
Sissal’s Eurovision Journey So Far
In line with previous years, Denmark selected their representative via its selection ‘Dansk Melodi Grand Prix’, with Sissal winning the selection after receiving the most points from the jurors and televoters combined. In Eurovision 2025, Sissal will be performing eleventh in the second semi-final on May 15.
Sissal’s song for Eurovision – “Hallucination” – was written by Sissal herself, alongside Chris Rohde-Frisk, Lina Spangsberg, Linnea Deb, Malthe Johansen, Marcus Winther-John and Melanie Wehbe.

Who is Sissal?
Sissal Niclasen is a 30-year-old singer-songwriter living in the Danish capital, Copenhagen. Born in Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands, she first gained recognition in 2005, when she won a local Faroese children’s competition. Her career continued to skyrocket, winning a slew of other competitions in the archipelago. Sissal would eventually move to Copenhagen to launch her international career in 2020, with her first EP being released in early 2025.
Denmark’s Eurovision Journey
Denmark first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1957 and notched up their first win in 1963 with Grethe and Jørgan Ingmann’s “Dansevise”. Denmark later earned two third-place finishes in 1988 and 1989 but was then relegated three times in 1994, 1996, and 1998. They finally achieved their second victory in 2000 with the Olsen Brothers’ “Fly on the Wings of Love”, and have missed the Grand Final eight times since the introduction of the semi-finals. A six-year qualification streak from 2008 culminated in its third win in 2013 with Emmelie de Forrest’s “Only Teardrops”.
Most recently, Saba represented Denmark after winning their national selection with her song “Sand”. She placed twelfth in the second semifinal, scoring 36 points.
