About “Desierto en Navidad“
Written by Blas himself alongside Dangelo, Marรญa Parrado, Fede Furia, and Sergio Gisbert “Desierto en Navidad” is a poppy upbeat Christmas number released last month. Lyrically the song tells of Blas sending a letter to (presumably, but honestly I don’t actually get the Spanish custom here) Father Christmas (or one of the Magi, again I don’t actually know) hoping to see one of his loved ones again to spend Christmas with them. The lyrics tell of him yearning for this, and not giving up on that wish.
What do we think?
I’m a huge fan of super poppy and upbeat Christmas numbers like this. There’s a perfect blend of dare I say tacky vintage Christmassy jingle here without it sounding old. There’s still a freshness here that makes me think I’ll be listening to this for years and years. Blas’ voice works so well for this style of song with the range working great at the more elongated notes.
Blas Cantฯ’s Eurovision Journey
Blas’ Eurovision journey began back back in 2004 when he managed to become a finalist in that year’s Spanish selection for Junior Eurovision. This didn’t hold him back as he tried again for adult Eurovision in 2011, with the song ‘Volver’. Together his boyband Auryn managed to finish second. The rocky road to the Eurovision stage continued as he managed to be selected internally as Spain’s entry for Rotterdam in 2020; when the contest was cancelled. He finally managed to perform on a Eurovision stage nearly two decades after initially trying, with his entry ‘Voy a Quedarme’ coming 24th with 6 points.
