We at That Eurovision Site will be ranking national finals throughout this coming season. The next national final that the team have taken a closer look at is DMGP, which will take place on the 14th of February. DMGP will select the Eurovision representative for Denmark in Vienna.
Who is taking part in the DMGP 2026 final?
There are 8 artists taking part in the final of DMGP. The 8 artists taking part are as follows:
| Entrant | Entry |
| Emil Otto | “Copenhagen Noir” |
| Ericka Jane | “Death of Me” |
| Lasse Skriver | “Roaring Heart” |
| Late Runner | “Can U Feel It?” |
| Myrkur | “Touch My Love and Die” |
| Sander Sanchez | “Two Spirits” |
| Sissal | “Infinity” |
| Søren Torpegaard Lund | “Før vi går hjem” |
Who is our winner from DMGP?
We ranked the songs taking part in the final, using a 1-8 ranking. 1 being our favourite, 8 being our least favourite song. We then calculated the average of all our rankings.
3rd. Sissal – “Infinity” (2.86):
2nd. Ericka Jane – “Death of me” (2.29):
1st. Søren Torpegaard Lund – “Før vi går hjem” (2.14):
What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from DMGP?
Tim (Ericka): We need more pop bangers (yes its so cliche) and with Denmark just making it back to the final in 2025, I really think that this is the right direction. It’s poppy and a lot of heavy beats. Personally, Ericka just needs to prove that she is capable to perform this live (which I think she will), and if she does then she is ready for world domination in Vienna.
Samantha (Sissal): Of course I have to compare it slightly to Hallucination. As a fan of Sissal’s entry last year I must say that I do prefer “Hallucination” but I appreciate “Infinity” and the risk that Sissal is taking here. The mix of Danish and English is a nice touch and Sissal is an amazing vocalist and performer. She is in with a good chance of heading to Vienna. Like Hallucination I think infinity will definitely grow on me more and more.
And what were the teams thoughts on the national final as a whole?
Nicklas: While I think the quality has improved slightly compared to the past few years, there’s still a long way to go before the show can produce anything that comes close to a top 10 at Eurovision. As a Dane, my biggest complaint is honestly that the songs don’t represent the danish music scene as a whole. If you listen to artists and bands like Annika, APHACA, Benjamin Hav and others from the Danish top 100, you’ll see that Danish music CAN BE much more interesting and diverse than the 8 songs in this years competition. I wish that DR would be brave enough to go a different direction, get rid of the family-friendly DMGP that clearly isn’t working, and create a new show with a fresh identity and with a closer link to the danish music industry. I doubt it’ll happen, but that is what I would do
Kittens: I feel like it’s a mixed bag this year. When you have a selection of so few songs you really do want everything to be top class in its field – and it’s not there. There’s a lot of ‘this is nice’ on display and not a lot of OMG WOW. And that’s a big problem both here and in Eurovision itself. However, I do think it comes with a few highlights – Søren Torpegaard Lund’s offering is a dreamy pop treat, and bringing something completely in Danish is something that should be applauded. Sissal’s offering will fill the pop huns with joy, but Ericka Jane feels just more high energy and it could beat her to the punch. Lasse Skriver may not be revolutionary, but will reach a receptive audience I’m sure. And even a nod to what could be with Myrkur bringing something completely different. Going forward though I would like to see more commitment to that though, more breaking the mould, less middle of the road.
What is DMGP?
Dansk Melodi Grand Prix is the oldest national final in the Eurovision sphere. The national final has been going since Denmark’s debut in the contest back in 1957. There are often around 8 acts who take part in this often singular night event. The voting process has changed over the years but currently the winner is determined by 50% jury voting and 50% televoting. Denmark is one of a few countries to introduce a super-final round which narrows the artists down to three before deciding the final result.
Denmark’s Eurovision Journey
Denmark first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1957 and notched up their first win in 1963 with Grethe and Jørgan Ingmann’s “Dansevise”. Denmark later earned two third-place finishes in 1988 and 1989 but was then relegated three times in 1994, 1996, and 1998. They finally achieved their second victory in 2000 with the Olsen Brothers’ “Fly on the Wings of Love”, and have missed the Grand Final eight times since the introduction of the semi-finals. A six-year qualification streak from 2008 culminated in its third win in 2013 with Emmelie de Forrest’s “Only Teardrops”.
Sissal represented Denmark in 2025 with “Hallucination”. She qualified for the final, breaking Denmark’s five-year non-qualification streak. She would eventually finish in 23rd place, earning 47 points. Of these 45 came from juries, while 2 came from the televote.
