What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from Eesti Laul?
Samantha (Noëp): I have been waiting for Noëp (as a solo artist) to take part in Eesti Laul for so long and I am so happy to see him compete with a song as good as “Days Like This”. It is radio friendly without being too generic and the combination of the meaning mixed with the upbeat feel-good production is really uplifting. I am really excited to see the staging because he is usually great at staging his performances so expectations are high. One thing I am loving about Eesti Laul recently is that bigger artists, who don’t make your typical “Eurovision-style” music aren’t afraid of now taking part in the contest (this might be the 5MIINUST effect) and it’s really refreshing. Genuienely might shed a few tears if Noëp doesn’t win.
Kittens (Uliana): Out of all the songs in Eesti Laul I think this is the one with the most impact for me, and while it’s catchy and really listenable, the repetitive nature of it could end up annoying on stage if not done well. I really hope for some very well put together staging and camera shots to really give it the impact it will need to take it forward, but should it go to Eurovision I would hope a revamp to give it a bit more progression and variety would be in order.
What is Eesti Laul?
For over a decade now Eesti Laul has showcased Estonian talent in a multi-stage format to select Estonia’s Eurovision entrant. Traditionally featuring two semi finals and a final, in recent years the show has been adapted year on year to feature (then subsequently remove) quarter finals, and wild card rounds. The winner is typically decided by a hybrid voting of juries and televotes, with superfinal of usually three acts vying for the chance to represent Estonia.
Estonia’s Eurovision Journey
Estonia has appeared at almost every Eurovision since their debut in 1994. They have won the contest once with Tanel Padar, Dave Benton and 2XL in 2001, singing Everybody. Other notable Estonian entrants include 3rd placer Sahlene with Runaway in 2002 and Ines with Once In A Lifetime in 2000, who placed 4th. More recently, their highest-placing entries have been Urban Symphony with Rändajad in 2009 and Ott Lepland with Kuula in 2012, both of which finished in 6th place.
In 2025, Estonia elected to send Tommy Cash through Eesti Laul to the Contest with “Espresso Macchiato”. They successfully qualified for the final and finished in 3rd place with 356 points. Of these, 258 points came from the televote, while 98 came from the juries.
