Preparations for Eurovision 2027 are in full swing. Bulgaria has announced a timeline of key events in the run-up to the contest as well as a 20 million euro budget.

Provisional timeline revealed

The action plan provides details regarding the upcoming organizational efforts.

By July 31: The host city is expected to be revealed. Four cities have expressed interest. It is expected that a shortlist of two cities will be announced before the final decision.

No later than August 30: An executive producer, creative director, and showrunner for the contest must be appointed.

Before September 10: A contract with the host venue must be signed.

By September 30: Spaces within the venue must be allocated for essential facilities, including the press center, make-up rooms, costume rooms, and VIP areas.

The financial model is scheduled to be completed by October 10 with funding from the state, municipality, EBU, sponsorships, and ticket sales.

Agreements with hotels accommodating delegations, media representatives, and visitors are expected to be signed by the end of November.

The creative concept and visual identity for Bulgaria’s Eurovision 2027 must be finalized by December 15.

Early 2027: The Eurovision 2027 website will launch as well as the start of ticket sales.

March-April 2027: Training simulations will take place.

May 18-24, 2027: Dismantling of the contest’s facilities at the venue, indicating the Grand Final will take place earlier in May.

Draft budget approved

On July 1st, the day the action plan was drafted by the organizing committee, Deputy Prime Minister Ivo Hristov, who leads the preparations, estimated the total cost of hosting to be between €20 million and €30 million. Contributions are expected from the state. Municipalities will also participate. Additional funding is anticipated from the European Broadcasting Union. Sponsorships are planned to cover the remaining share.

The story of Eurovision 2027 so far

The journey to the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest kicked off immediately following DARA’s win in Vienna, when Bulgaria’s BNT accepted the rights to host the 71st edition of the contest. Currently, very little is known about the plans for next year’s Contest, but four cities have expressed their interest in hosting Eurovision 2027, and they are Burgas, Plovdiv, Sofia and Varna.
As for the organisation of the competition, the Bulgarian government stepped in to create an organising committee, which was revealed at the end of May 2026, with further details about next year’s competition to be revealed in due course.
