🇸🇪 Benjamin Ingrosso – “Funny Feeling” & “Waste My Time”
🇱🇻 Sudden Lights – “talk to me”
Latvian indie-electro band Sudden Lights represented their country with the song “Aijā” at the Contest in Liverpool, in 2023. Although they missed out on a spot in the Grand Final, the band became huge fan favourites within eurofan communities, and have continued to release great indie records. “talk to me” is a perfect example of this; modern indie pop-rock with a 90s reminiscent sound, while still being quintessentially a Sudden Lights track. This is a great record from the band.
🇷🇴 Illinca – “Nu mă căuta”
Illinca represented Romania at the Contest back in 2017, with the iconic performance of “Yodel It!”, alongside Alex Florea. The duo would eventually place 7th in the Grand Final in Kyiv. Latest single from Illinca is hugely different to the 2017 Eurovision entry. This is a gritty, indie rock record, with passion and emotion throughout. The production on this song is incredibly pleasing, and the finished product is a style that absolutely suits Illinca’s voice and tone. If you haven’t heard much of her recent music, and only know of her from her Eurovision song, I urge you to check this song out. It’s such a pleasing sound for the alt-rock genre.
🇦🇲 Aram MP3 – “Hayastans”
Aram MP3 represented Armenia at the Contest in Copenhagen in 2014. He placed 4th in the Grand Final with his dubstep/ballad mashup “Not Alone”. Latest single from the Armenia musician comes in the form of “Hayastans”. The track blends electro-funk, disco and traditional Armenian sounds, in a love letter to the Armenian people, with “Hayastans” being the native name for Armenia in the Armenian language. This is a fun, joyous sound. It’s also a great one to get you moving and bopping around while listening.
🇸🇪 Loreen – “True Love (Ólafur Arnalds version)”
This week sees a new remix of two-time Eurovision winner Loreen’s “True Love” from her most recent album “WILDFIRE”. The song originally found its place as the last track on March’s “WILDFIRE”, and the new remix of the song builds on Loreen’s original version to create a huge sound. Posting on her instagram, Loreen said of the new version: “Ólafur is not only a dear friend and close musical companion, but someone I have immense respect for both as an artist and as a human being. There is something profoundly uncompromising in the way he approaches music. A purity and honesty that has, at different moments, reminded me of the importance of returning to my own core . to trust what is true, and to create from that place without compromise. I hope you can feel some of that connection, love and sincerity in this version of True Love”.
🇹🇷 Can Bonomo – “Sen Gül Diye”
Can Bonomo is, at the time of writing, the last act to represent the nation of Türkiye in the Song Contest. He performed his song pop-rock sea shanty “Love Me Back” on the ESC stage in Baku, back in 2012, and finished 7th at the close of voting in the Grand Final. At the time of his selection to represent Türkiye, Can Bonomo was a relatively unknown musician, but the same can no longer be said. He has amassed a huge following across Europe, and released a number of albums in recent years. This week see the musician release new single “Sen Gül Diye”. It’s a melodic, alternative sound, with electronic production over an otherwise indie-pop ballad-stye instrumental. This is sweet, incredibly Turkish sounding, and shows how far Can Bonomo has come in the decade and a half since his Eurovision debut.
🇩🇪 Lord Of The Lost – “Empyrean (2026 Deluxe Edition)”
10 years after the release of their “Empyrean” album, Germany’s Eurovision 2023 representatives Lord Of The Lost have released the 2026 celebratory Deluxe Edition. Many of the tracks on this record are the same as the original release, with a new second disc of alternative versions, remixes and demos. The band always keep things interesting in their style of prog rock meets metal metals goth rock. There are some great rock songs on this album, and I’m glad it’s getting an anniversary release.
🇸🇲 Piqued Jacks – “Radio Alta”
Following Piqued Jacks release of “Cambio Forma” earlier this year, the San Marino 2023 Eurovision band have added a new track, “Radio Alta”, to the release. The EP features previous singles “Speechio”, as well as title track “Cambio Forma” and “Dove Andrei”. The new single is a great addition to the already released tracks, and as a finished EP, the elctro-indie-rock sound really works for Piqued Jacks. All 4 songs are actually very good Italian indie-rock, a much more refined sound than their Eurovision entry “Like An Animal”. The third track on the EP, “Dove Andrei”, is particularly enjoyable rock, and if you discounted the Italian band after their Liverpool semifinal performance, give them another chance. Alternatively, if you, like me, were a fan of Piqued Jacks from their time on the Eurovision stage and follow-up releases, this only cements them as a talented indie-rock outfit. Either way, give it a listen. Piqued Jacks deserve a redemption.
🇵🇱 Michał Szpak – “Kochanie!”
Michał Szpak represented Poland at the Contest in Stockholm, in 2016, with his dramatic power ballad, “Color of Your Life”. His appearance in the voting sequence remains one of the most memorable examples of a massive split between professional juries and public voters in Eurovision history, with 2016 being the first year the two voting pathways were revealed separately. Latest single from Michał “Kochanie!” is a great piece of funky, electro-rock.
🇮🇪🇳🇴 Emmy – “Faller For Deg”
Emmy, alongside her brother Star Guy, has a long history with the Eurovision Song Contest. The Norwegian singer competed in the Melodi Grand Prix national final in 2021, with the track “Witch Woods”, and attempted to represent Norway again in 2026 with the track “Sykt Fin”. Her brother, Star Guy, attempted to represent San Marino in 2026 with the track “Star Shadez”. But eurofans will most likely remember the pair from their 2025 Eurovision entry “Laika Party”, which represent Ireland. Emmy released “Acoustic World” project earlier in the month, and this week’s release from the singer couldn’t be further from that project. “Fall For Deg” sees Emmy feature on DJ SABOTASJE’s new fast-tempo, eurodance song, reminiscent of the 00s eurodance records that took over music scenes. This is exciting!
🇦🇹 ZOË – “Siegfried aus Xanten”
Zoe Straub, known to Eurovision fans as Austria 2016’s “Loin d’ici” singer ZOË, has new music. The singer has collaborated with a number of musicians on the EPOS – Die Rocker project. ZOË has written the music for the rock opera musical, telling the story of the medieval legend Nibelungenlied, shown through the eyes of women instead of the usual heroes of the story. The latest track to come from the rock opera musical is “Siegfried aus Xanten”, a song performed by the character who is the traditional central hero of the medieval German epic poem.
🇫🇮 Darude – “Sandstorm (Storm 25 Mix)”
Finland’s iconic DJ and music producer Darude competed in the Contest in Tel Aviv, back in 2019. This week, the musician has released a new “Storm 25” of the classic 1999 dance record Sandstorm that took over Europe in the early 00s and took over the internet throughout the 10s. The new version of the track adds an element of modernity to the iconic track, freshening it for a new audience.
🇳🇱 Jeangu Macrooy – “This Woman’s Work (Beste Zangers)”
The Netherlands host entrant at the Contest in Rotterdam in 2020 and 2021 Jeangu Macrooy is back with another song from the currently airing Beste Zangers TV show in the country. This week, Jeangu took on Kate Bush’s iconic 1988 track “This Woman’s Work”, in a beautiful rendition. Jeangu performed the new version of the track on the famous Dutch TV music celebration Beste Zangers, which sees popular musicians cover and reinterpret famous songs. The release is a great piece of music, showing off Macrooy’s incredible vocal.
