🇸🇪 Greczula – “Love = Art”
🇩🇪 Malou Lovis – “soft season”
Germany’s Malou Lovis missed out on a spot in the superfinal of the Das Deutsches Finale in 2026 with her song “When I’m With You”. The queer singer-songwriter has continued to release new singles since then, with the immaculate “i’m not here for you” released earlier in the year, as well as “chasing love and missing people”. Both of those tracks now find a home on the new EP from Malou “soft season”. It’s a beautiful, in parts delicate and emotional, and in parts celebratory collection of songs from the musician. She truly is one of my favourites to feature in any national finals in recent years. Just a superb vocal talent with great indie-pop songs.
🇱🇻 EMILIJA – “Prom no Tevis”
In recent years, Latvian singer-songwriter EMILIJA has placed both second and third in the country’s Supernova national final, but has just missed out on the opportunity of representing the country on the ESC stage both times. The singer made her breakthrough on the Latvian X Factor, and has become a huge name in alt-pop in the country over the last 5 years. Her most recent single, “Prom no Tevis”, is a big ballad sound, mixed with more contemporary alt-indie-pop. It’s a great release from EMILIJA and I’m sure we shall see her again in a future Supernova.
🇮🇹 Sayf – “TOP OF THE POPS (Red Bull 64 Bars)”
Eurovison 2026 in Vienna could have been an entirely different sound from the Italian delegation, had Sayf taken first and not runner up in the country’s Sanremo Music Festival with his song “Tu mi piaci tanto”. The Tunisian-Italian rapper and singer narrowly missed out on the win, but claimed the number 1 spot on Italian charts with the release of his album “SANTISSIMO” shortly after the competition. This week, Sayf appears in the Red Bull 64 Bars studio alongside producers Jiz and Dibla, to take on the 64 bar challenge. The resulting rap track is great. Sayf deserves his success, he is an incredible rap and hip-hop performer.
🇳🇴 Leonardo Amor – “Maybe Sorrows”
Leonardo Amor placed 5th in Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix earlier in the year with his song “Prayer”. After a string of recent releases, including emotionally charged, incredibly personal singles “18 Years” and “2005”, the Filipino-Norwegian singer has this week released the “Maybe Sorrows” EP. The 5-track EP features his MGP entry, the previously released singles, as well as new track “Sorrows”. As a finished project, these songs share a theme of personal sadness, trauma and heartbreak, whilst also providing a hopefulness that only someone who understands and has lived through set backs can deliver. Leonardo has an overwhelming talent for storytelling in his music, and while many artists can deliver sad songs, much fewer can make those songs feel so personal and relevant to anyone listening. The “Maybe Sorrows” EP is an incredible example of how music can convey emotions, and I hope Leonardo continues to make such powerful songs in future.
🇵🇹 Nunca Mates o Mandarim – “Três Noites”
The band Nunca Mates o Mandarim were one of many Portuguese artists who joined the boycott of the 2026 Eurovision before the Festival da Canção even began this year. They would eventually place third in the national final with their fan favourite song “Fumo”. The band released a full length album at the start of the year, but in recent months have begun releasing even more new music. This week, Nunca Mates o Mandarim drop new single “Três Noites”. The song is a full-bodied, dark, mysterious, alt-indie song with the instantly recognisable vocal from lead singer João Amorim that the group have come to be known for. I’m excited to see what this trio do next.
🇦🇹 FREVD – “The Other You”
Before the 2026 Austrian national final to selection the host entrant for the Contest in Vienna took place, heavy-rock band FREVD were one of the favourites to take the win with their song “Riddle”. Although that didn’t happen, the group have amassed a huge following in Austrian and German alt scenes, and continue to make great rock songs. Latest single “The Other You” is a prime example. The song is on the softer, poppier side of rock and metal compared to their Vienna Calling entry, but is a great pop-metal sound.
🇪🇸 Luna Ki – “Diva Suicida”
Luna Ki is a pioneer of Spanish alternative pop, hyperpop and alt-electronica. Back in 2022, the non-binary Spanish artist entered the first edition of the Benidorm Fest national final with their fan favourite alt track “Voy a morir”, before ultimately making a decision to withdraw from the selection as their track was not suitable for the EBU’s ban on autotune affecting the authentic sound Luna Ki creates. This year, the musician returned to the Benidorm Fest stage with their song “Bomba de amor”, delivering a truly dynamic and eye catching performance in the first semi-final. This week, Luna Ki releases latest single “Diva Suicida”, a brilliant example of the kind of alt-electronica they create.
🇩🇪 wavvyboi – “some of us aren’t made for heaven”
wavvyboi placed second in Germany’s Das Deutsche Finale in 2026 with their song “black glitter”, narrowly beaten to the win by Sarah Engels. The musician released the song “some of us aren’t made for heaven” earlier in the month, saying “this might be my favourite wavvyboi song so far it finally feels like i’ve found the words for what this world has always been about. if heaven wasn’t made for us, we’ll build our own”. This week, wavvyboi releases the full EP of the same name, containing 5 big, bold songs. The musician is carving out their own lane in the German music scene, and latest song “bird” explores the themes of queer identity, freedom and mental health that the glam-rock poet so brilliantly writes about in their music.
🇺🇦 LAUD – “Твоя сила в мені”
At the close of voting in Ukraine’s 2026 edition of Vidbir, LAUD, with the song “Lightkeeper” was just 2 points behind eventual winner Leléka. The singer had previously attempted to represent Ukraine at Eurovision, but so far, 2nd place in the national final is his best achievement. The newest release from LAUD “Твоя сила в мені” is anthemic, soulful, choral pop in the best way. This is a brilliant song from the Ukrainian musician.
🇷🇴🇸🇲 Edward Maya – “Under The Moonlight”
I think this man has appeared on almost every single Eurovision new music round-up so far this year. Edward Maya will most likely be known as the DJ and producer of huge eurodance anthem “Stereo Love”, back in the early 2010s. But this year, the musician entered both Selcția Naționalǎ in Romania with the song “Everybody Needs Somebody”, and San Marino Song Contest with the song “Balla”. The artists may also be known to fans as one of the creators of Romania’s 2006 Eurovision entry “Tornerò”, performed by Mihai Trăistariu. This week, Maya released “Under The Moonlight”, a classic Edward Maya dance track, fit for any night club or beach bar.
🇱🇹 Jokūbas Jankauskas – “Paleisk”
Jokūbas Jankauskas has competed twice in Eurovizija.LT, most recently in this year’s edition of the national final with the song “Shine”. Latest single “Paleisk” is a soulful blend of indie, funk, jazz and rap into a really smooth sound. This is a great piece of Lithuanian language music from Jokūbas.

🇪🇸 Mel Ömana – “ESTE ES MI AÑO”
Mel Ömana became one of the instant fan favourites of the 2025 Benidorm Fest when she performed her entry “I’m A Queen”. Although she didn’t win the overall selection, the Canarian musician gained a huge following, and has gone on to continue giving incredible live performances and making new music in recent years. This week, Mel releases new single “ESTE ES MI AÑO”, a soulful RnB/pop song, full of Spanish flair and heat. This is a great release from Mel Ömana.
🇵🇱 Kuba Szmajkowsky – “DON JULIO”
Kuba Szmajkowsky has competed in the national final for Poland on various occasions, most recently for the 2025 edition where he placed 5th with the song “Pray”. The. young musician, who first found fame on Poland’s version of The Voice Kids, this week releases the “DON JULIO” EP. Highlights of the project for me personally include the English language, club ready dance song “Back To Your Hands” and previously released track “Milliony kilometrów”. Kuba is a star and deserves every moment of success he gets.
🇪🇪 gem98 – “Tartu”
Eesti Laul 2025 saw gem98 compete with his song “PSYCHO”, reaching the final but failing to make the superfinal round. The Estonian musician follows up on recently releases single “On meie kool hoos” with “Tartu”. Like “On meie kool hoos”, “Tartu” is a post-punk, Estonian language, track coming in at under 2 minutes in length. Both tracks feel more rooted in punk and alt energy than the more mainstream, non-offensive “PSYCHO”, but all three tracks are great examples of Estonian post-punk energy.
🇫🇮 costee – “Ennen sua”
Since opening the UMK national final with his song “Sekaisin” back in 2025, pop-rock rapper and singer costee has refused to be ignored in the Finnish music scene. The musician has been nominated for a Finnish Emma Award, released his fourth studio album and cultivated a huge following both inside his home country and across Europe. After nearly a year without a music release, costee begins his new era with the release of “Ennen sua”, a loud pop return to the Finnish music scene.
🇸🇪 Ella Tiritiello – “Bara idioter”
Ella Tiritiello made waves in Melodifestivalen 2025 with the song “Bara du är där”, co-written by two-time Eurovision winner Loreen. Whilst the song ultimately finished its Mello journey in the Final Qwal round, the song found a life of its own outside the contest, reaching number 9 in the Swedish music charts. Remaining one of the fastest rising stars in Swedish language music, Ella returns with “Bara idioter”, a typically well produced Swedish track, with crips vocals and a soaring chorus. Ella is sure to be one to watch for a future Mello return.
🇮🇹 SETTEMBRE – “LENTIGGINI”
After winning Sanremo Giovani, SETTEMBRE competed in and won the Newcomers’ section (Nuove proposte) of the Sanremo Music Festival 2025 with his song “Vertebre”. As a result of his incredible performance, SETTEMBRE was appointed to the Italian jury for the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest in Basel, part of the jury which gave the UK’s Remember Monday their only 12 points of the year. The Italian singer-songwriter is heavily rumoured to be involved in the 2027 edition of the Festival di Sanremo. This week, SETTEMBRE has released “LENTIGGINI”, a beautiful, if husky, pop-piano ballad. Whether he appears on the Sanremo stage next year or not, SETTEMBRE is one to watch for the future!
🇱🇹 Ustin – “Paslaptinga Meilé”
Ustin competed in Eurovizija.LT in 2025, with the English-language pop track “You’re the One”. While he didn’t make it through to the national selection final round in 2025, the Ustin remains an emerging artist in the Lithuanian music scene. Latest single “Paslaptinga Meilé” showcases his musicality and vocal skill in a country infused indie-pop song.
🇪🇪 Cecilia – “KOLETIS”
For me personally, 2024’s “FOMO” was absolutely robbed from a rightful spot in the Estonian national final Eesti Laul. Cecilia’s song still makes its way onto my top 100 listened to songs on Spotify every year, and I don’t see that changing at the end of this year either. The singer returned to Eesti Laul in 2025 with “Rollercoaster”, which again was inexplicably left out of the final. Somehow, “Rollercoaster” was an improvement on her 2024 attempt and yet still did not leave the semifinals of Eesti Laul. All that is to say, I won’t be able to write about this without absolutely gushing about Cecilia’s music. Following her recent collaboration with alt electro-pop producers vgtbl.pl, this week Cecilia collaborates with margiiela on exciting electro-pop track “KOLETIS”. This is another example of Cecilia being an absolute icon of her genre.
