Day 4 of rehearsals for Eurovision 2021 has come to an end, and there is a lot to discuss! To start, eight countries took to the stage in Rotterdam. These countries were Georgia, Albania, Portugal, Bulgaria, Finland, Latvia, Switzerland and Denmark.
However, what did we make of what happened today?
What were our highlights from today?
Jazzi: Finland it’s one of my faves and the staging was what I imagined it would be.
Rory: For me, I’d have to say Portugal. I was one of a few that liked ‘Love Is On My Side’, and the staging really was quite refined from Festival da Cancao, without losing tackiness. I also really liked Switzerland too and it solidifies their place in the Top 5 for sure.
Rosie: It has to be Bulgaria and Switzerland for me. Both of their performances were in a league of their own – intimate, powerful, and beautiful, with flawless vocal performances. I loved both the songs already, but seeing them staged the way they were felt creative without distracting from the core messages of each song.
What were our lowlights from today’s rehearsals?
Jazzi: Denmark. I do feel it will be a televote qualifier although this would be undeserved in my opinion. I just think as a closer it’s not anywhere near impactful enough and ends the semi final on but if damp note.
Rory: There wasn’t so much a lowlight, but rather my least hyped song. For that I’d go for Georgia, which I was fairly indifferent about both going in and coming out of the rehearsal. It was alright, but the fact I’m still nonplussed by the song afterwards isn’t a good sign.
Rosie: I don’t think any performance was a lowlight itself. Probably my lower points of the day were The Black Mamba talking about the inspiration for Love Is On My Side, as it’s a bit of a personal sticking point for me, and the huge underappreciation for Samanta Tina by nearly everyone!
Our favourite moment from today
Jazzi: Finding on on the press centre chat about TIX’s crush on Efendi.
Rory: It would have to be Tornike deciding in his final run-through to sing in whatever goddamn register he wanted, as he looked as apathetic about being on stage as he possibly could.
Rosie: Gjon saying “sheeps” in the press conference gave me everything.
