Spanish broadcaster RTVE announced earlier this week that they have extended the submission period for entries to the Festival Internacionale de la Cancion de Benidorm.
The festival, which will be Spain’s selection method for Eurovision 2022, will now accept submissions from songwriters through the 10th of November.
Benidorm Submission Period Extended
The initial submission period for the Benidorm Festival opened on September 29th and was set to close on October 27th. However, Spain’s head of delegation, Eva Mora, announced the extra two-weeks for submissions on the original due date.
Speaking to RTVE, Mora stated that the delegation has received many proposals from relevant artists. Mora also noted that RTVE felt the need to extend the deadline so that potential entries can have “more scope to send proposals with the highest possible quality”.
RTVE will accept submissions both by invitation and through their online submission process.
How Benidorm Fest Will Work
The Benidorm Festival will return for the first time since 2006 in January 2022. Specific dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
According to RTVE, the festival will consist of twelve artists competing in two semi-finals and a final. A mixture of public and jury votes will determine the winner of Benidorm. That artist will then represent Spain at Eurovision 2022 in Turin.
The Benidorm festival marks Spain’s return to a national final selection for the first time since 2019. RTVE internally selected Blas Canto to represent Spain in 2020 with “Universo” and 2021 with “Voy a Quedarme”.
