๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Glasgow confirms bid for the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest

Before it was official that the United Kingdom will be hosting the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, a few cities expressed their interest in hosting next year’s contest. One of the cities who expressed their intention is Glasgow. The city has now confirmed that they will be bidding to host the contest.

Glasgow meets the ‘technical requirements’ to host Eurovision 2023

As reported by Edinburgh Evening News, that thecouncil has been working hard on its bid, since it was revealed that the EBU is in talks with the BBC to host Eurovision 2023. It was mentioned that the event could bring around ยฃ20 million for its economy.

Glasgow will be putting forward the OVO Hydro Arena, which has a maximum capacity of 14,300 spectators, and has hosted events such as the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards, ย the Ryder Cup Gala Concert and the 2014 BBC Sports Personality of the Year. The venue was also used for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

For Eurovision fans, the arena was used to film ‘Eurovision: The Story of Fire Saga’, which was released by Netflix in 2020.
