Another city has ruled out bidding for the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest. Despite their previous hopes to host the next year’s contest, Derry will not bid for the hosting rights.
Strabane District City Council confirms that they won’t bid to contest
The Strabane District Council has confirmed to Eurovoix, that unfortunately they will not be bigging to host the contest. A spokesperson for Derry City has told the Council is unable to fulfill a number of very essential minimum criteria to be taken into account for hosting. The criteria that are mentioned are provisioning a suitable venue and supproting accomomodation infrastructure.
Derry is one of the biggest cities of Northern Ireland. It’s home of an Eurovision winner Dana, who took the win home to Ireland in 1970.
On the 12th of August, during the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show between 7:30 and 10:30 CEST, it will be announced which cities are shortlisted to host the contest next year.
