More and more countries are confirming their intention to participate in next year’s competition. Another country to confirm it will be present in Liverpool is Australia. SBS’ participation was revealed as the official list of participating countries for Eurovision 2023 was announced. This will be Australia’s 8th participation in the contest.
Australia’s selection method for Liverpool is still to be confirmed
Alongside the confirmation that they will be participating in Liverpool, SBS is yet to reveal how they will be selecting their next Eurovision representative. Since their debut in the competition, they have used various selection methods in selecting their entry. In 2022, Australia opted to use a National Final in order to select Sheldon Riley for Turin.
2023 will also see Australia’s last definite participation in the contest after the EBU allowed SBS to participate for the past five years. The EBU is yet to confirm if Australia will be able to continue to participate after next year’s contest.
Australia’s Eurovision Journey
Being the latest country to debut into the Eurovision Song Contest; Australia debuted into the Eurovision Song Contest in 2015, with Guy Sebastian representing the land down-under with his entry “Tonight Again”, where they managed to place 5th. Since their debut, they have managed to participate every single year into the competition. In 2022, Australia was represented by Sheldon Riley, with his song “Not the Same”, which managed to qualify for the final and finish 15th, with 125 points.
