Slovenia’s national broadcaster RTV SLO has announced that Joker Out will represent the nation at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool.
Joker Out – ‘shagadelic’ sounds
Joker Out is one of the most popular bands in Slovenia, dominating the country’s music charts for several years. Their genres can range from indie pop rock – similar to that of the Arctic Monkeys – to experimental pop. The band is made up of five different members – Bojan, Kris, Kure, Nace and Jan. The band is also signed to record label Shagadelic Records.
RTV SLO announced that Joker Out would represent the country at a special presentation on Thursday (December 8th). The broadcaster said that changing the approach from the EMA national selection was an easy decision. In a statement, Head of Entertainment for RTV SLO Vanja Vardjan said it was time for a shake-up:
We decided to use a tried and tested form of national selection, namely the internal selection. We have chosen Joker Out, who, like Magnifico and the bands Siddharta and Big Foot Mama before them, bring good quality popular music to the Slovenian music scene to the delight of the broadest of audiences. We were looking for a good sound and popularity, and I’m convinced that we have found them.Vanja Vardjan, Head of Entertainment at RTV SLO
Song to be presented on February 4th
As Joker Out now prepare for Eurovision 2023, a special show presenting their competing song will be broadcast on February 4th. Speaking after their confirmation, the band said they are ready for the challenge:
All members in the band are big fans of the Eurovision. It is our wish to perform there for some time now, but we were waiting for the right moment. Although we are young, the fast progress of our career has brought us loads of experience, motivation and creative energy: we are ready for this challenge.
Regarding the style of music present at the Eurovision Song Contest – we need to say that it is well past being defined or limited to just one genre. We are staying true to our distinctive Joker Out sound, no matter where and when we perform.Statement from Joker Out

Slovenia’s Eurovision journey
In 1993, Slovenia made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest. Their first artist was 1X Band with the song “Tih deževen dan”, which placed 22nd. Since their debut, they have participated 26 times (15 of which, where they qualified for the Grand Final.)
Slovenia’s recent Eurovision participation, saw them being represented by LPS. The band represented Slovenia with the song “Disko”. At the close of voting, LPS placed 18th in the first semi-final; receiving 15 points from the jury and televoters, finishing last in the semi-final.
