The Voice Georgia is now approaching its final stages. Following the live shows, 8 finalists have been chosen from 24 performers, with one of these on the way to becoming Georgia’s Eurovision participant for 2023!
The hopefuls are:
Team Sopho Toroshelidze | Team Stephane Mgebrishvili | Team Dato Evgenidze | Team Dato Porchkhidze |
Tina Datkashvili | Likuna Tutisani | Giorgi Datiashvili | Iru Khechanov |
Lika Siradze | Anka Tatarashvili | Kakha Aslamazashvili | Tako Kakalashvili |
While many of the acts are relative unknowns (for now!), Eurovision fans may recognise Iru Khechanov as one of the singers in CANDY, who won Junior Eurovision in 2011. Two of the coaches are also Eurovision alumni. Sopho Toroshelidze was the lead singer for Eldrine, who represented Georgia in 2011, giving the country its joint best result. Stephane Mgebrishvili formed part of Stephane & 3G, who were due to represent the nation at Eurovision 2009. However, after refusing to rewrite their song “We Don’t Wanna Put In”, the band were disqualified from participating.
The final of The Voice Georgia 2023 will take place on Thursday 2nd February at 22.00 local time (19.00 CET).
Georgia are using this year’s edition of The Voice to select their performer for Eurovision 2023. It is not yet known how the song will be chosen.
Georgia’s Eurovision journey
Georgiaโs history in Eurovision has been mixed since they began competing in 2007, represented by Sopho Khalvashi with “Visionary Dream”. Their highest placements โ both coming in 9th โ were achieved in 2010 and 2011, with Sopho Nizharadze performing “Shine” and Eldrine performing “One More Day”. They have not qualified for the final since 2016, where they were represented by Nika Kocharov & Young Georgian Lolitaz with the song “Midnight Gold”. They were represented in 2022 with Circus Mircus, with their song “Lock Me In”. At the close of voting, however, Georgia finished last – 18th – in the semi-final.
