Could we see another Baltic nation in Junior Eurovision? While it may be a little way away, comments from Lithuanian national broadcaster LRT seem to suggest that Lithuania could make a return to Junior Eurovision in 2025.
The Roadmap to a Return
Andrius Korenka, the head of LRT, has laid out a roadmap for a potential Lithuanian return to Junior Eurovision. Firstly, LRT will broadcast tomorrow’s Junior Eurovision for the first time since their last participation back in 2011. This is alongside the ‘MazojiEurovizija2023’ contest, where Lithuanians under 18 are invited to comment on JESC 2023 and upload it to social media to boost the contest’s publicity, with the winner travelling to watch the 2024 Junior Eurovision final live. While the country will not participate in 2024’s Junior Eurovision, they will broadcast the contest live once again. The broadcaster will use ratings from these two years to decide on whether to return in 2025.
Lithuania’s Junior Eurovision History
In 2007, Lithuania made its debut in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, with Lina Joy and the song “Kai miestas snaudลพia”, which placed 13th. Overall, Lithuania has participated four times in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, with their latest attempt in 2011 with Paulina Skrabytฤ and the song “Debesys”, which placed 10th.
