Who are our favourites from Vidbir 2024

We ranked the songs taking part in Vidbir 2024, using a 1-11 ranking. 1 being our favourite, 12 being our least favourite song. We then calculated the average of all our rankings. Right below, you can see the top three for this week’s show.

3rd. ANKA – “Palala” (4.00)

2nd. MELOVIN – “DREAMER” (3.67):

1st. alyona alyona & Jerry Heil- “Teresa and Maria” (3.67)

There is a tie for first place, Teresa and Maria and Dreamer both had the same amount of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th places, however as Teresa and Maria’s next highest ranking is a 5th place while Dreamer’s is a 7th place, therefore Teresa and Maria is our winner for this national final.

What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from Vidbir 2024?

Jazzi (“DREAMER”): I love the underground club vibes of this song. I actually don’t think this is the best option for Ukraine, but it’s certainly the one that is most to my music taste. However I think this is one of the strongest national finals this year, and the hardest for me to rank.

Daniel (“Teresa and Maria”): Should it win Vidbir, Teresa & Maria will most likely be my Eurovision 2024 winner. I have been utterly obsessed with the song since the very first listen. The song has something of an almost angelic quality, which is fitting for the theme of holiness present throughout. Jerry & Alyona have a fantastic synergy and are both brilliant artists. There’s a lot of songs I’m a very big fan of in the selection, and any other year would love to see win, but for me it simply has to be this for Ukraine. I get chills every time, just sheer brilliance.

Euan (“Palala): From the opening seconds I’m encaptivated by this number. Ukrainian music as a whole is capable of some of the most amazing blend of traditional and electronic music; with Palala being another fine example. ANKA’s ability to easily and switch between white voice and spoken word is fantastic. The beat, and the flute in particular, has been stuck with me since I first heard this song. This is exactly the energy and sound that I want Ukraine to continue to showcase, and in my opinion one of their best chances to win again in what is a pretty stacked Vidbir.

Ukraine’s Eurovision Journey

Ukraine is one of the most successful countries to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. The country has scored eight top-five placements, with an extra four top-ten finishes. Ukraine won the Contest three times – in 2004, 2016 and 2022 respectively. Ukraine made history for being the first ex-Soviet country to win the Contest more than once.

In 2023, TVORCHI represented Ukraine as co-host entry in Liverpool with their song “Heart of Steel”. The duo finished in 6th place, scoring 243 points – of which 54 points came from the jury, whilst the remaining 189 points came from the televote.
