With cities in the midst of preparing their bid books for Eurovision 2025, we have a city dropping out of the race, as St. Gallen has revealed that it will not be putting a bid forward to host Eurovision 2025.
High requirements cannot be met
The news of St. Gallen not bidding for next year’s contest was revealed by the city itself, citing the inability to meet the requirements set by SRG, with the city estimating that the city’s hosting of the contest could reach up to CHF 40 Million.
Some of the requirements that St. Gallen was not able to meet include having hotels with more than 25 rooms, as well as having Olma Hall (the proposed venue) available for 8 weeks, as this would result in a “difficult-to-estimate losses in revenue” for the venue, as well as postponement of events that are already booked, which could put a strain on relationships with loyal exhibitors, partners and visitors.
In addition, the city also mentioned that infrastructure would have to be upgraded for the contest, and as such meant that the high requirements cannot be met in its current form.
Despite not bidding for Eurovision 2025, St. Gallen mentioned that if Zurich is awarded the contest, the city has mentioned that Olma Hall could be used for other events, due to its short proximity, and if SRG decides to resize the event due to insufficient bids, it would be happy to consider a second attempt.
