As well as the gargantuan task of hosting next year’s Eurovision Song Contest, Switzerland has also continued it’s journey to pick Nemo’s successor, with the number of submissions now revealed.

431 submissions

The Swiss public service broadcaster, and host of Eurovision 2025, has revealed that it has received 431 songs in its hunt for Nemo’s successor; up four songs compared to last year. This comes after a relatively short window of opportunity to submit, with the broadcaster only opening submissions earlier this month. The broadcaster has previously announced as part of its criteria for entry, that the song must not have been made available to the public in any way in accordance with Eurovision rules. Outwith that rule, no criteria was set with regards to language or any stylistic choices for Switzerland’s next entry.

The winner of Switzerland’s internal selection will be revealed at some point early in the new year, after going through several rounds of critiquing; in collaboration with YouGov. At this present time it is unknown who has made any submissions, with these details unlikely to be made public by SSR SRG.

Switzerland’s Eurovision Journey

Switzerland both hosted and debuted in the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest in 1956. Their first participation was successful, as they won with Lys Assia’s “Refrain”. Since then, they have participated on 63 occasions, making the Grand Final 52 times.

Switzerland’s most recent participation saw them being represented by Nemo with their song “The Code”. Performing in the second semi-final, they qualified for the Grand Final for a fifth consecutive participation. At the end of voting in the final, it was revealed Switzerland had won the Contest. Nemo scored 365 points with the national juries, as well as 226 points with the televote. The overall winning score for “The Code” was 591 points. This win marks Switzerland’s third win in the contest following on from Lys Assia in 1956 and Celine Dion in 1988.
