Spanish broadcaster RTVE has revealed some details about the submissions it has received for Benidorm Fest 2025.
About Benidorm Fest 2025
Spain confirmed its participation at Eurovision 2025 soon after the 2024 contest ended. The submissions for Benidorm Fest 2025 opened soon after, and almost 1000 submissions were received. This figure was an increase from submissions for 2024 and represents the most submissions received in Benidorm Fest’s four-year history. In a press conference with the RTVE Director of Corporation and Participation of RTVE María Eizaguirre, the broadcaster revealed some details about the pool of songs. Pop music remains the dominant genre, but there are more urban, folk and rap songs than before. There have also been more submissions from women than men, as well as several submissions from non-Spanish artists. RTVE received a song featuring AI for the first time. The artists competing at Benidorm Fest will be revealed at a later date.
Spain’s Eurovision History
Spain debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1961 with Conchita Bautista’s “Estando Contigo”. The country earned its first win in 1968 with Massiel’s “La La La”, and won again in 1969 with Salome’s “Vivo Cantando” in an infamous four-way tie. Although they have yet to win again, Spain earned several 2nd place finishes, most famously with Mocedades’ “Eres tu” in 1973 and Anabel Conde’s “Vuelve conmigo” in 1996.
In 2024, Spain selected Nebulossa. As part of the Big 5, Nebulossa did not need to qualify to the Grand Final from the semi-finals. At the close of voting, their song “ZORRA” finished 22nd, with a total of 30 points. Of these, 19 points came from the jury, whilst 11 came from the televote.
