France’s silence over its plans for Eurovision 2025 seem to be breaking with fansite L’Eurovision au Quotidien reporting that an announcement about its plans for Basel is expected this coming December or January.
Announcement within the next couple of months
French fan media site L’Eurovision au Quotidien is reporting, via an interview with French head of delegation Alexandra Redde, that an announcement on French plans for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2025 should coming within the next two months. The reason for the current silence these months is the French delegation’s focus on Junior Eurovision. At present their is no information on how France will be deciding who will succeed Slimane.
Since announcing that it would participate in Switzerland next year there has been very little hints about France’s plans; with only minor rumours of artists that were quickly quashed.
France’s Eurovision Journey
France is a powerhouse in Eurovision, debuting in the first Contest in 1956. Their first entries finished in second place, but no scores were ever published. Since then, France has gone on to win the Contest five times. The most recent win came in 1977, with Marie Myriam’s “L’oiseau et l’enfant”, scoring 136 points.France has seen a rebirth in results following a change in direction in 2016. Amir finished in 6th position for France with “J’ai cherché”, followed by 12th, 13th and 16th places respectively.
For 2024, France continued to choose internally, they chose Slimane with his song “Mon amour”. At the close of voting in Malmö, France finished in 4th place, earning 445 points. Of these, 218 points were given by the juries, whilst the televote allocated an extra 227 points to France.
