France becomes the latest country to confirm its participation at Eurovision 2025.
Unclear Selection Method
France Télévisions confirmed that they will participate at Eurovision 2025 in Switzerland, bringing the provisional list of competing countries to 22. However, France Télévisions did not confirm the method of selecting their participant. There have been suggestions that France may return to a national final in the future. The past two representatives, La Zarra and Slimane, were selected by France Télévisions internally. The last time France used a national final was in 2022, where Alvan and Ahez won C’est Vous Qui Décidez with “Fulenn”.
France’s Eurovision History
France is a powerhouse in Eurovision, debuting in the first Contest in 1956. Their first entries finished in second place, but no scores were ever published. Since then, France has gone on to win the Contest five times. The most recent win came in 1977, with Marie Myriam’s “L’oiseau et l’enfant”, scoring 136 points.France has seen a rebirth in results following a change in direction in 2016. Amir finished in 6th position for France with “J’ai cherché”, followed by 12th, 13th and 16th places respectively.
For 2024, France continued to choose internally, they chose Slimane with his song “Mon amour”. At the close of voting in Malmö, France finished in 4th place, earning 445 points. 218 came from the jury, while 227 came from the televote.
