As national final season kicks into gear, San Marino has announced a rebrand of its national final, formerly known as Una Voce per San Marino.
The San Marino Song Contest
Newly titled the San Marino Song Contest, the final show will take place on March 8th, and will be broadcast on RAI Radio and RAIPlay as well as on SMRTV.
Artistic Director Massimo Bonelli has also revealed plans to make voting more transparent. Jury votes will be made public this year, and he himself will have a vote, worth ten points.
For several years now, microstate San Marino has financed its participation in the Eurovision Song Contest through its behemoth, multinational preselection. Application fees go towards Eurovision participation, and no one competing must be Sammarinese. Indeed, San Marino’s past two representatives were Spanish and Italian!
We do not yet have official information about the full list of participants or songs, but rumors have flown throughout the application phase–among them former Albanian representative Besa, and last year’s runner-up for Iceland, Bashar Murad.
San Marino’s Eurovision Journey
As one of the smallest countries in Europe, San Marino made its debut in the competition in 2008 with Miodio and the song “Complice”. Since then they have participated in the competition 14 times, qualifying for the grand final in three. Their best result was in 2019, with Serhat and “Say Na Na Na”.
Spanish band Megara represented San Marino in 2024 with the song “11:11”. They failed to qualify from the second semifinal, placing fourteenth and receiving sixteen points from the televote.
